A MAN has been arrested following an eight-hour negotiation with police in a residential road.

Emergency services were called to Markham Road in Bournemouth after a report of a concern for the welfare of a man in a property in the road.

It was reported windows at a property had been smashed and he was in possession of a knife.

The road was closed as a large police presence made efforts to engage with the man, who was detained more than eight hours later, at around 2.30pm on Monday, April 22.

Now, Dorset Police has confirmed the man has been arrested.

A spokesperson for the county force said: “The man was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage. He remains in police custody.”

The man was taken to hospital for treatment by the ambulance service after he was detained, and there was nobody else in the property.

He was seen leaning out the window of a first-floor window, with blood on the windowsill on the outside of the house.
