THE Wessex Way through Bournemouth was closed last night due to a concern for welfare.

Officers closed the A338 at St Pauls Roundabout near Asda towards the exit for Richmond Hill, after a report of a woman on a bridge over the road at 12.17am.

Emergency services attended, and the woman was brought to safety at around 1am and taken to receive appropriate care.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police: “Dorset Police received a report at 12.17am on Monday 15 April 2024 raising concern for the welfare of a woman on a bridge over the A338 Wessex Way in Bournemouth.

“Officers attended with the fire and ambulance services.

“The road was closed while efforts were made to negotiate with the woman.

“She was brought to safety at around 1am and taken to receive the appropriate care.

“Road closures were lifted.”
