A RINGWOOD building society is believed to have been infested with rats.

Nationwide was unable to open its doors for three days after suffering a ‘health and safety issue’.

A sign on the storefront read: “Due to unforeseen health and safety issues, we are temporarily unable to open the branch.

“We are treating this as a high priority and endeavour to get the branch up and running as soon as possible for our members.

“We understand that this may cause an inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding whilst we resolve the matter.

“During this time, your nearest branches will be Fordingbridge, Ferndown, Christchurch or Salisbury.

“We hope to be open as soon as possible, so please keep an eye on our website as this will be updated as soon as we have confirmation of being able to reopen our doors.

“Thank you again for bearing with us during this time.”

Now, a social media user said that they witnessed a pest control van outside the building soon after it announced its temporary closure.

Another user mentioned the prevelance of rats in the area.

When asked about the rats, a spokesperson for Nationwide said: "Following reports of pests, we quickly took action.

“Health and safety is always a priority."

Nationwide in Ringwood has now reopened to customers.
