A SECOND food-themed event is set to run alongside this year’s Christchurch Food Festival.

Christchurch Business Improvement District (BID) has announced plans to put on its very own ‘Food Fest Local’ over the same May weekend.

While Christchurch Food Festival will take place at Christchurch Quay, the BID’s Food Fest Local will see the food offerings stretched throughout the high street.

It is set to feature stalls, live music and food courts, plus ‘pop up’ appearances from popular Christchurch businesses including Bacello, the Thomas Tripp, Dirty Gerties, Bodega, The Ship Inn, and Bonafide Wines.

A collection of tasters, spirits, jams and chutneys, artisan foods, makers and bakers that you would expect at a food fest will also be showcased, along with live music pop-ups from local artists.

Food court areas will be scattered throughout the high street so visitors can take time to sit and enjoy the food and entertainment over the weekend.

Christchurch BID say the aim of the event is not to compete, but to “encourage visitors to spend time enjoying the local businesses and food stalls in the town centre alongside visiting the quay to enjoy the Christchurch Food Festival offering”.

The BID added: “It is sure to be a great addition for visitors to the town who will be able to enjoy the High Street Food Fest Local event alongside Christchurch Food Festival down at the quay; the entire town will really come alive.”

Christchurch BID did plan to launch the Food Fest Local event last year, but it did not go ahead due to “unforeseen operational issues”.

The BID asked that funds which had been allocated to the event were carried over to 2024.

Plans for this year’s event were due to be presented to Christchurch Town Council’s at the recourses committee meeting on Tuesday, March 5.

The new Food Fest Local event is scheduled to take place on May 25 and 26, while Christchurch Food Festival is set place on May 25, 26 and 27.

Christchurch BID will be sharing event updates on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
