The most well-known pub chain across the UK is known for their cheap pints, but does that mean the pubs themselves come highly recommended?

To find out we ranked all the Spoons pubs in the BCP area by their score on Tripadvisor.

When the scores were the same we ranked them by the percentage of reviews that were in the 'Excellent' category.

Here is the ranking from best to worst of the Wetherspoons pubs in the aforementioned areas according to their Tripadvisor scores.

The Moon in the Square is located right in the heart of Bournemouth, and was the clear winner as the best-ranked Wetherspoons in the BCP area.

One reviewer posted: "When travelling we visit a lot of Wetherspoons and feel this is definitely an above average spoons. The staff are friendly and efficient and the meals, given the size of the place and the number of customers they are serving are excellent."

Another wrote: "Wow. A totally amazing Wetherspoons. Staff all really approachable, friendly & polite. Tables cleared & WIPED straight away. Service best I’ve come across in a Wetherspoons. Keep up the good work guys."

2. The Mary Shelley

The Mary Shelley is only a short distance away from The Moon in the Square in Bournemouth and was the second-best ranked of the BCP Wetherspoons.

One reviewer posted: "Went to the Mary Shelley for cocktails and lunch, food great. Cocktails great, service great. Only downside was tables were very sticky, even after they’d been wiped by staff. Toilets nice and clean."

Another shared: "This is a Wetherspoons and it is just what you would expect from the brand. The food and drink, is readonably priced, the service is fine."

3. The Quay

The Quay Wetherspoons pub in Poole is another one that has been mostly well-received by customers, earning a 3.5/5 score from 778 reviews on Tripadvisor.

However, it won't be around in the near future as the pub chain announced it would be closed once the site is sold off.

An exact closing date is still unknown and the firm would not go into detail about why it is closing the branch. 

One reviewer posted: "We visited for coffee on a bright December day. The pub was fairly busy but all the spare tables were cleared and clean. The staff were welcoming and there was a nice atmosphere."

Another was a bit more mixed, writing: "Visited here just for pre dinner drinks, reasonable selection of Ales and nice Thatchers Haze cider, but totally understaffed."

4. The Parkstone and Heatherlands

The last of the three Bournemouth Wetherspoons is located in Winton with The Parkstone and Heatherlands getting fairly mixed reviews.

One person who was very happy with the pub wrote: "This is a Wetherspoon pub, so you're getting reasonably priced food and drink. The range of drinks is good and there's always new ales on offer. The food is also good. We had the ramen bowl which was delicious."

However, not everyone was so pleased as another commented: "Never got the full menu. Tables need a good clean . Hate to think what the kitchen looks like. Staff always look rushed off there feet. Should hire more people. Food cheap enough. But a bit bland."

5. The Lord Wimborne

The Lord Wimborne is the other Wetherspoons pub found in Poole's main town, and had fairly contrasting reviews from customers.

Many were not complimentary, with one person writing: "Very disappointed with The Lord Wimborne this time. We arrived mid afternoon and though it was extremely quiet it took us a while to find a table that wasn't full of dirty dishes and glasses or, in a very dark area.


Recommended reading:


"Though there appeared to be plenty of staff, ( there were four behind the bar with only me being served), none seemed interested in clearing tables."

However, some were happy with it, with one person sharing: "It’s a Wetherspoons. You get what you pay for. We’ve never been let down from a good time out pre drinking here! Drinks are cheap and so is the food. Yh it may not be the best but it does the job."

6. The Blackwater Stream

The Blackwater Stream located in suburb of Broadstone close to Poole came bottom of the list due to a slightly lower percentage of 'Excellent' reviews compared to The Lord Wimborne.

One person wrote: "This used to be a really good spoons. However recently the quality of the food has dropped considerably. Today the lunch was poor and when sent back it returned pretty much the same."

However, there were also plenty of reviewers who were more positive on the pub, with one person sharing: "I had low expectations but received great service and food and drinks. Amazing value. This is a well run Wetherspoons with well trained friendly and efficient staff."
