RESIDENTS in parts of Dorset are being urged to “take action now” as a flood alert is issued.

The Environment Agency has issued an alert for the Lower Frome and tributaries.

A spokesperson said: “River levels are high and rising again at the Stinsford river gauge on the Lower Frome between Dorchester and Wareham.”

Flooding is forecast to affect locations on the River Frome in the Dorchester, West Stafford, Bockhampton, Lewell, Tincleton, Pallington, Waddock, Moreton, Wool, East Stoke and Holmebridge.

As well as Stoborough, Stoborough Green, Wareham, Redcliffe, Ridge and Swineham areas.

The spokesperson added: “We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue this warning if necessary.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.

“People in this area should take action now.”

Storm Isha is sweeping across the UK and is set to bring widespread disruption.

Winds of between 50mph and 60mph are expected with potential for gusts of 70mph to 80mph possible along exposed coastal stretches.

The Met Office has issued an amber alert which comes into force between 6pm on Sunday, January 21.

It will be in place until 6am on Monday, January 22.

According to the Met Office, heavy rain is expected from 6pm today until around 1am.

A yellow weather warning for strong wind started at 12pm on Sunday and will run until 12pm on Monday.
