Halloween is coming up later in October, and many people will be looking to get a pumpkin for the big day around Dorset and the New Forest.

Carving a pumpkin and using it as a decoration is an enjoyable activity for the season undertaken by many.

Whilst finding one from a supermarket is useful, many people like the experience of going out to a farm to pick their own out.

Here are some patches around Dorset and the New Forest where you can go to pick out a spooky Jack-O'-Lantern for the season.

Dorset Country Pumpkins

Address: Longclose Farm, 2 Long Close, Milton Abbas, Blandford Forum, DT11 0BU

The Dorset Country Pumpkins site will be open from 10am on Saturday, October 14 and pumpkins will be priced according to size.

It will also be open on Sunday, October 15 and from Saturday, October 21 to Sunday, October 29.

They recommend wearing wellies on the site if you have them and dogs are allowed as long as they are kept on a lead and don't go into the pumpkin patch itself.

Sopley Farm

Address: Derritt Lane, Sopley, Christchurch, BH23 7AZ

Sopley Farm opened for pumpkin picking on Friday, September 29 and is open every day from 9am to 5pm.

Pumpkins are priced at £1 per kg, and they recommend bringing something to put your pumpkins in as they might be muddy.

New Forest Pumpkin Patch

Address: Strawberry Fields, Boldre, Lymington, SO41 8PT

The New Forest Pumpkin Patch in Lymington is opening up its doors for pumpkin picking on the weekend of October 7-8.

It will also be available on October 14,15, 21,22,27,28 and 29, with its opening hours being 10am to 5pm each day.

Well-behaved pets are welcome on the site, although it is asked they are kept on a lead at all times and there is no admission fee.

Bickton Manor Farm Picking Patch

Pick your own pumpkins will be available at Bickton Manor Farm in the New Forest from Saturday, October 7.

After that, it will also be open on October 8, 14, 15 and 21-29.

On its website, it states: "Parking and entry are free, please keep in mind during wet weather our fields become muddy and sites will be closed if weather conditions make the site unsafe."

Lenctenbury Farm

Address: Soldiers Road, Norden, Corfe Castle, Wareham, BH20 5DU

Lenctenbury Farm is now open for picking pumpkins every day until October 31 from 10am to 5pm unless they are sold out beforehand.

Pumpkins are priced at £1 per kg and sledges are available for children to bring pumpkins back from the field on.

There is no need to book and dogs are not allowed on the picking fields.

Gorcombe Farm Pumpkin Picking

Address: Gorcombe Farm, Blandford Forum, DT11 9AG

Pumpkin picking at Gorcombe Farm will be open every day up until October 31 from 9am to 5pm.

There is no need to book in advance to pick out your potential Jack-O'-Lantern.

Fordinbridge Pumpkin Pastures

Address: Ringwood Road, Slip Road, Fordingbridge, SP6 1AN

Pick your own pumpkins will be available on the site every day between Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 29.

This is open from 9.30am to 4pm and no booking is required.

Parley Pumpkin Patch

Address: A338 Ringwood Rd, Bickton, Fordingbridge, SP6 2HA

Parley Pumpkin Patch near Fordingbridge will be opening up its doors on Saturday, October 7 from 9.30am to 5pm.

It will be open just at weekends at first before being available all week from Saturday, October 21.
