WIMBORNE came alive as it held its annual celebration of folk music

Thousands of people filled the streets this weekend to enjoy the ever-popular Wimborne Minster Folk Festival.

Now in its 41st year, the three-day long event never fails to bring the market town and its communities together.

Visitors enjoyed live folk music, traditional dances, comedy, and art, plus the endless offerings of food and drink from stalls.

Performances came from artists including Brothers Gillespie, The Jigantics and Odette Michell, and blessed two main stages in the town.

Saturday afternoon saw the return of the well-loved parade, in which hundreds of dancers in extravagant costumes trailed through the square.

The display was as successful as ever, and drew huge crowds of spectators.

Mini shopping villages had been set up around the Minster and boasted an array of independent traders and colourful product ranges.

Many pubs, restaurants and cafes also chose to get involved by launching their own pop-up stalls in the streets.

Dylan Carter, 36, who was enjoying the celebrations with his family, said: “This is the biggest event we have in Wimborne.

“It’s the only time when all the pubs and bars get involved, and have their tables and drinks outside, so it’s good fun.

“I’m glad the rain is holding off for it.”

Another event attendee, Anne Hill, said: “It’s such a good event for the community. We love all the wacky costumes.”

Speaking on Saturday, Polly Morris, an organiser of the event and member of the voluntary committee, said: “Today has been the most amazing day.

“We’ve had the most fantastic parade all through the town with people in different costumes doing incredible dancing.

“Looking around the town, there has been so many happy faces. Everybody had a really great time.”
