A SCOUT leader from Bournemouth is set to represent the UK at an international event in Korea.

Bournemouth unit leader Jade Abrook has been selected to be in the International Service Team (IST) at the 25th World Scouting Jamboree.

The event, which takes place every four years in a different county, is being hosted by South Korea in August.

It will see 50,000 scouts aged 14 to 17 from 170 countries attend.

This multi-national IST is made up of 6,000 people who work to make the jamboree happen, taking on a range of roles from organising activities to catering and infrastructure.

The UK members of the team are set to gather for their penultimate meeting before the event and they will receive their famous contingency uniforms and kit.

Jade said: “I’m most excited to go to South Korea and meet people from all over the world and learn about their cultures and experiences through scouting.

“I’m hoping to give the young people confidence and an understanding of other people’s cultures so they become more well-rounded individuals.”

UK chief scout, Bear Grylls, said: “Congratulations to Jade and all the other adult volunteers who have been selected to support this adventure.

“Young people could not take part in these life changing events without the support of adult volunteers like Jade.”
