DOZENS of firefighters are tackling a blaze in a supermarket warehouse in Moordown.
The fire is in a warehouse at the back of Somerfield on Wimborne Road.
A spokesman for the fire service said aerosol cans in the warehouse have been exploding and the fire service has asked for the assistance of the police in case they need to evacuate the area.
Nine fire crews, 55 firefighters, are in attendance.
According to the spokesman, there is no one in the building and nobody has been injured in the fire.
Wimborne Road was sealed off along with a number of surrounding residential roads. A number of properties in the immediate area were evacuated.
The Somerfield store was badly smoke-logged.
Supermarket staff have been evacuated to a nearby pub.
One office worker near the scene said she and her colleagues had been hearing "a cacophony of sirens".
She added: "I can't actually see anything from here, but we've heard police cars, support cars and fire engines all going past. There's tremendous activity going on."
