THE pink vicar has been appointed as a Bournemouth church's new priest as she leaves her previous position in Pennington where her 'colourful' presence was known across the community.

St James' Church, Pokesdown, has announced that Reverend Rachel Noël is joining them in October.

Rachel is a well-known colourful presence in Pennington where she has been serving for several years.

The Bishop of Southampton, Rt Revd Debbie Sellin said Rachel , currently priest in charge of St Mark's Church, Pennington has been offered and accepted the new postin Pokesdowne.

Rachel said: "I'm excited to be moving to Pokesdown, although it is so hard to say farewell to the communities of Pennington and Lymington.

"As my life is deeply rooted in prayer and scripture, out of which life, community and relationship flow, I'm looking forward to getting to know and love the people of Pokesdown too."

New Forest District Council member Barry Dunning said: “Pennington’s loss, Pokesdown’s gain! Thank you Rachel, for your time in our town."

Throughout the pandemic, Rachel organised community yarnbombs and colourful displays along the churchyard hedge in Pennington.

Hundreds of people have contributed to the community art projects.

Rachel will be licensed at St James’ Church, Pokesdown on Sunday, October 2, at 4pm.
