A THREE-DAY pop festival, to be held at Lulworth Castle, has been granted a licence by Purbeck council.

Camp Bestival, curated by Radio One DJ Rob Da Bank, will take place from July 18 to 20 and is expected to attract 10,000 revellers over the weekend.

East Lulworth parish council had raised concerns over the event, mainly regarding noise and security, but council licensing officer Trevor Heritage said the licence had been adjusted to take these into account.

"The organisers produced quite a comprehensive event management plan which all the responsible authorities, such as police, fire and environmental health, agreed with," said Mr Heritage.

Organisers Loud Sound Events will supply a household information pack to all East Lulworth residents detailing security arrangements and a 24-hour complaint line number for the event.

Although the festival's main stage will close at 11pm, the licence allows music to be played until 2am on Friday and Saturday night and midnight on Sunday.

Promoter Rob Da Bank said Camp Bestival was aimed largely at a family crowd and a high proportion of children was expected at the event.

He said: "We totally accept we need to prove ourselves and we have been talking to everyone in Lulworth to give them their say.

"We are trying to work with local people to create a really fun atmosphere for everyone."

Headliners for the event will be alternative American rockers The Flaming Lips, rock 'n' roll pioneer Chuck Berry and Brit Award winner Kate Nash.

The event promises to hark back to 1950s holiday camps, with a sports day, fancy dress, story telling and a Come Dancing tent.

Camp Bestival is a spin-off of the main Bestival event, which has run on the Isle of Wight each September since 2004 and last year attracted a record crowd of 30,000.

The promoter said he hoped Camp Bestival would also become an annual event if this year's festival proved a success.
