A GENEROUS donation from a family trust will pay for a motorised wheelchair for a Corfe Mullen toddler with muscular dystrophy.

Kaitlin Moors, aged three, suffers from Central Core Disease (CCD) and has difficulty moving around.

But the bubbly tot's physical limitations have forced her to develop the speech capacity of a child twice her age.

The chatty youngster has won the hearts of staff at her local Co-Op on Wareham Road who held a sponsored walk to raise funds for a special wheelchair for Kaitlin.

A poster in the store attracted the interest of local shopper, Drew Illman.

Drew is a trustee of the Wallace Bell Trust, a charitable fund named after his grandfather. Each year, the family donates the interest earned on the fund to a good cause.

" Kaitlin's is exactly the kind of cause we support. The donation makes an immediate impact.

Donations to larger organisations get lost in the administration," said Drew.

The trust's pledge of more than £5000 was welcomed by Kaitlin's family.

Dad, Dave Moors, said news of the donation had come as a very pleasant surprise.

"When we were told, we couldn't believe it.

"I phoned my wife and was met by silence from the other end of the line," said the proud father.

Dave said the chair would give Kaitlin a lifestyle closer to that of a child her age.

And the doting dad is bracing himself for the new challenges Kaitlin's independence will bring.

"We took Kaitlin to the park in a borrowed chair.

"We had planned to walk in one direction, but Kaitlin said she was going to the swings and zoomed off," said a delighted Dave.
