The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Pavilion, Bournemouth

FRANK SINATRA called him "the greatest arranger in the world" and it is Nelson Riddle's incredible association with the crooner that is so spectacularly celebrated in this show.

What makes this unique concert so special is Riddle's son Christopher Riddle is helping keep his father's musical legacy alive by leading his own 17-piece strong orchestra (and playing trombone) whilst telling a very personal story of his father's life in words, music and with projected images taken from the family album.

The visible resemblance to his father is uncanny and he conducts and leads the orchestra in the same tradition and style using all the original charts and arrangements.

Riddle's career spanned 50 years and helped establish artists like Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald but his years with Sinatra, from 1953-62, were the golden age.

There could not have been a finer vocalist that Bryan Anthony to make our night with Ol' Blue Eyes more real. From the opening I've Got the World on a String' he was the puppeteer who certainly had his audience on a string.

Yet whilst he charmed us with his vocals on numbers like I've Got You Under My Skin', Night and Day' and Witch Craft' our focus rarely shifted from this orchestra as a whole, demonstrating what a master of mood and subtlety Riddle was.

His ability was clearly demonstrated by this outstanding orchestra.
