THE Dolphin Centre will be hosting a big screen event, completely powered by pedal bikes, showing two popular films.

The free sustainable, back-to-school cinema event will take place on Friday, September 2, to raise money for charity.

Powered by four pedal bikes, the Big Green Screen allows the public to enjoy two family-friendly films while being eco-friendly.

The bicycle-powered cinema is a clean, efficient and sustainable way to enjoy your favourite films.

Located inside the Dolphin Centre, in between New Look and the old M&S unit, Disney’s Moana will be shown at 11 am and iconic Grease at 2 pm.

The Dolphin Centre’s management team will take turns to power the films throughout the day as part of their annual “ONE GREAT DAY” fundraising event.

This initiative was started by the One Great Day charity that holds events within shopping centres across the UK to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, and a local charity of each centre’s choice. The Dolphin Centre’s charity of choice this year is University Hospitals Dorset.

John Grinnell, Centre Manager at The Dolphin Centre, said: “We’re incredibly conscious of our carbon footprint at the centre and work hard to ensure that we are as sustainable as possible. We want to host a fun event for families to enjoy, with an educational twist, before the kids go back to school!

“Our aim is that the addition of the pedal bikes can help teach our community about sustainable living.

"Having generated our own energy, we hope that the public will be encouraged to think about their energy consumption and, hopefully make a small step towards reducing their own carbon footprint going forward.”

In 2021, six team members from the Dolphin Centre in Poole took part in an extensive 16.4-mile beach clean on October 15 in partnership with One Great Day.
