FLORAL tributes have been left at the scene of a collision in which a 74-year-old pedestrian died on Sunday. The man, who lived in Poole, was involved in a crash with a green Kawasaki motorcycle in Ringwood Road outside the Turbary Retail Park.

Police and paramedics were called to the southbound stretch of the carriageway at 2.30pm. Despite their efforts, the man died at the scene.

The rider of the motorcycle – a 50-year-old man from Ferndown – sustained serious injuries and was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Flowers have been left at the base of a tree at the scene in tribute to the man. Yesterday, residents of Ringwood Road told the Daily Echo of their shock about the incident. Eldhose Alias, who was among those who helped direct traffic on the busy road shortly after the collision, said: "It was shocking to hear about what happened. I helped traffic pass by the scene for paramedics until the police arrived. "The emergency services were very professional. The road was closed until quite late last night. "It's a very sad thing," he added.

Ringwood Road was closed into the evening. The air ambulance also landed at the Oak Academy playing field.

Police have not yet formally identified the man who died.

A resident, who wished to stay anonymous, said: "I heard the air ambulance trying to land in the road, and I knew it was serious. It's horrible that someone has died. I've lived on this road for six years and I've never seen anything as serious as this."
