CHERRIES hitman Callum Wilson believes he is sharper than ever – and has warned Premier League defenders there is still more to come.

The 26-year-old netted the equaliser with a sublime solo effort during the Dorset club’s impressive 2-1 success at West Ham.

Wilson’s latest strike means he has scored three times in as many top-flight games dating back to last season, with goals also coming against Cardiff and Burnley.

Plagued by two serious knee injuries in the past, the former Coventry ace believes he is benefiting from a full pre-season to showcase his explosiveness in the final third.

Asked whether he felt sharper than ever, the frontman told the Daily Echo: “Yes. As you can see, I am still getting tired towards the end of games but, the more I am playing, the fitter and sharper I will get.

“I have always said when I get a good pre-season behind me I feel sharp going into the season and it’s proving that way so far.

“I just need to continue working hard now. I feel good, strong and robust and the hard work in the gym will continue.

“I always look to analyse my game, good and bad. There is always room to improve all the time.”

Wilson’s majestic individual strike at London Stadium saw him increase to five goals in as many games his prolific record against the Irons.

He showed his rapid pace to surge past challenges from Fabian Balbuena, Pablo Zabaleta and Angelo Ogbonna – defenders with 78 international caps between them.

The strike today earned rave reviews on Sky Sports, featuring a punditry panel including team-mate Jermain Defoe.

An unused substitute in the contest, Defoe added: “As soon as he went through I knew he would score.

“We have done a lot of finishing with me, Callum, Joshua King and Lys Mousset. There have been good sessions with penalties and everything.”

Commenting on Wilson, Liverpool legend and Cherries season-ticket holder Graeme Souness added: “He has come back a slightly different shape – maybe more thick and solid.

"He’s a real player. Big clubs will be looking at him.”

Reflecting on the goal after the final whistle, Wilson added: “It was a nice one. I want to get on the coach now and have a little look at it!

“I started to drive with it and they kept backing off and I was getting closer. I thought I’d go through a little gap I'd created.

“When you are in the heat of the moment, you forget how far out you were.

“It was one-and-one and just needed a bit of composure to aim through the keeper’s legs.”

Wilson will be hoping to keep up his scoring run when Cherries host Everton at Vitality Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

He is yet to score against the Merseyside outfit in three top-flight appearances.
