THE eagerly-anticipated British Beach Polo Championship gets underway tomorrow.

Bumper crowds are expected for the Daily Echo-backed event, which is scheduled for two days of action.

Four competitive polo teams will go head-to-head for the title in the special arena at Sandbanks Beach, Poole, for what is the 11th year of the championships.

Event director Johnny Wheeler said: "We are blessed to be able to stage our event on the magnificent Sandbanks Beach and enjoy such close co-operation with the local council.

"Year after year we attract the finest polo players, wonderful sponsors and partners and a full house of supporters."

New for the event in 2018 will be the 'Sandscrum' contest, exhibition five-a-side beach rugby in association with Bournemouth Rugby Club.

There will also be an 'Ibiza Fashion Festival' and two evening's of entertainment in the main marquee.

Borough of Poole leisure portfolio holder Cllr John Challinor said: "We are delighted to see the return of the British Beach Polo Championships to one of our most famous Blue Flag beaches."

The British Beach Polo Championships take place on July 13 and 14.
