ARMED police were called to reports of a woman wielding an axe in a busy Bournemouth road this morning.
The woman was causing a disturbance outside a residential property in Christchurch Road as passers-by were taking their children to school.
Officers were alerted at 8.25am and a spokesman for Dorset Police said a 51-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and detained on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and public order offences.
The Bournemouth woman is helping police with their inquiries and an axe has been recovered.
A member of the public told the Daily Echo she had seen several police cars at the scene as she walked her grandchildren to nearby Corpus Christi primary school.
