PUPILS at a Dorset school went on safari to celebrate the recent warm weather.
As part of their topic on Africa, the youngsters from Witchampton CE First School went exploring in the school grounds.
The year one and two children had received a letter and an adventure pack from a ‘safari guide’ urging them to search for the kind of animals they might find in Kenya.
Head of School, Cathie Bolton, said: "This event not only taught our children about the animals that live in Africa but it also encouraged their sense of adventure and exploration.
"It was a really fun afternoon and we were so lucky to have safari-like weather for the occasion."
For the safari every child had a checklist to tick off what they had seen.
Some of the animals, in the form of cuddly toys, spotted by the children included an elephant, a buffalo, wildebeest and an antelope.
The children then had to write back to their 'guide' telling them what they had seen and ask questions such as 'What is it like to live in Kenya?' and 'What do the animals like to eat?'
Their questions were answered when they left their African adventures behind and returned to the classroom.
