VANDALS caused thousands of pounds of damage at an offsite airport car parking facility last weekend.

Two cars were defaced, including one with explicit words scratched into it, during the brazen crime on Saturday, May 26, at Bomo Parking Services site at Adventure Wonderland off Merritown Lane.

The owner of the business said he was concerned for the safety of his staff after CCTV footage captured the moments before the culprits smashed the equipment to pieces.

John Smith, director of Bomo Parking Services, said: "It was fortunate that our staff were at the airport at the time, meeting customers, because you never know what could have happened.

"My staff have been excellent in dealing with the criminal damage caused to cars, our valeting equipment and CCTV cameras, although it is the completely innocent customers I really feel sorry for.

"One of the customers regularly uses our service and it was so disheartening to have to tell the old gentleman who had the disgusting profanities scratched into the side of his vehicle.

"Causing criminal damage against innocent people is not acceptable and I am confident the police will resolve this.

"From what police said the business and the owners of the cars have all been victims of crime, which adds up to several thousands of pounds.

"I've offered to get the damage repaired on the cars, but I hope to get the compensation back from the people that did this.

"It is definitely a targeted attack and the people can be identified from the footage which has been given to police."

Mr Smith said he returned early from a trip away with his family over the bank holiday weekend after staff contacted him about the incident.

After viewing the CCTV footage up until the point it was destroyed, he contacted police to report the crime. A Dorset Police spokesperson confirmed officers were investigating, but no arrests have been made.

"We had a report of criminal damage to vehicles at a car park facility near Bournemouth Airport, off Merritown Lane," the spokesperson said.

"The report came in on Sunday, May 27, and it is believed to have occurred some time between 4.30pm and 10pm on Saturday, May 26.

"The criminal damage was in relation to CCTV cameras on the office and also two vehicles on the site were damaged with scratches."
