FIREFIGHTERS were called to an office block in Bournemouth this morning.

The fire service was called at 9am to reports of smoke coming from the first floor toilets of the former Abbey Life building in Holdenhurst Road.

Bournemouth Echo:

Six fire engines from Poole, Westbourne, Christchurch and Redhill Park attended along with an aerial platform and the support unit from Hamworthy.

Firefighters carried out investigations on the first floor, however nothing was found.

The fire occurred in a toilet on the third floor and was out when firefighters arrived but was still smouldering.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said there was "minimal" damage which was confined to the area.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and investigations are continuing.

Two fire engines remain on the scene.

There are no reports of any injuries.

The building, known as the 'wedding cake', is occupied by a number of firms including McCarthy & Stone and Arthur J. Gallagher.

The building was evacuated.

A spokesperson for McCarthy & Stone said: “We can confirm that there has been a fire on the 3rd floor of 100 Holdenhurst Road.”

“All McCarthy & Stone staff have been safely evacuated and accounted for. Fire crews are currently at the scene assessing the damage.”
