THE Met Office has warned warm weather could lead to thunderstorms and heavy rain this weekend.

A yellow weather warning has been issued between 6am on Saturday and midnight on Sunday for storms.

Another warning has also been extended until 6am on Monday morning.

A spokesman said: "Thunderstorms will produce torrential rain and hail in places with up to 30mm falling in an hour, while some places may miss the worst of the heavy rain."

They added: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms will affect parts of Southern Britain this weekend.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services."

Drivers have been warned conditions could be difficult and lead to some road closures and there is a small chance some communities could become cut off by flooded roads.

Power could also be lost to some homes and businesses.

Currently, the Met Office says Bournemouth is forecast to see some stormy weather around 7pm on Saturday.

Sunday will be cloudy and slightly cooler with a chance of rain.

The warning for Monday says: "Thunderstorms will continue to develop over the southern half of the UK throughout Sunday with some of these persisting into Monday morning.

"Whilst many areas will see small amounts of rain a few locations may see some very large totals with 30 mm possible within an hour and perhaps up to 80 mm in 3 hours.

"Along with this hail and thunder are likely as well as some locally strong gusts. Perhaps the most likely time and location for seeing these severe thunderstorms is over parts of Wales and extending southeastwards into southern parts of the Midlands during Sunday afternoon."
