AN extension proposed for a Boscombe home has aroused the ire of neighbours.

On Monday, May 21, Bournemouth council planning board is due to discuss the proposed extension and conversion of a garage into "annexe accommodation" at 18 Penrith Road.

The borough has previously refused a plan to demolish the bungalow and build a three-storey block of five flats.

A report by planning officer Steve Davies states: "The advice given was that in principle a redevelopment proposal in the form of a small block of flats was worth pursuing but the scheme at that time was too bulky. No further follow up discussions took place."

Although recommended for approval by Mr Davies the scheme will go to the committee having attracted 20 letters of objection and a hostile 44 signature petition.

In particular, Penrith Road residents expressed concern about the future of the site.

Paul Hickman said: "I suggest this application has all the hallmarks of 'planning by continuous amendments' stealth towards the original goal of conversion to the previously refused self-contained flats."

Peter and Janet Roberts said: "This lack of interest in working in partnership with our community makes us concerned as to what is the ultimate plan for 18 Penrith Road."
