PLANS for a boundary wall in Winton have been rejected by Bournemouth council.

The application to build a 1.2m high rendered wall with timber gates on a property in Dunkeld Road was deemed by council officers to be out of keeping with the Meyrick Park and Talbot Woods Conservation Area, in particular due to the use of render.

A report by planning officer Caroline Whiteman states that a boundary wall which creates "a fortress effect where the front of the property cannot be seen" is "not appropriate and degrades the character of an area".

The report states: "The predominant boundary treatment in the vicinity of the application site is low walling with foliage above.

"The front boundary to the application site is currently benefitted from its low stone wall, which is very much in keeping with the conservation area."

The scheme was rejected under delegated powers.
