BOURNEMOUTH is one of the UK’s top staycation destinations, it has been revealed.

According to a report carried out by Travelodge, the town is the tenth most popular staycation hotspot.

Cornwall came out on top followed by Devon with Edinburgh coming in third.

London, the Cotswolds, the Lake District, Scottish Highlands, North Wales and Bath also feature in the list.

This summer, 57 per cent of Brits will take their annual summer holiday in the UK and will spend an average of £823, which is up 37 per cent on last year.

With 38 per cent saying they wanted to holiday in the UK rather than Europe in order to support their economy.

The average length of the staycation break is a week.

The report also said that 40 per cent of British holidaymakers will spend their vacation in two or three locations which includes a beach, rural and city destination.

The UK’s top staycationers are from Newcastle with 82 per cent of residents revealing they would be holidaying at home this summer.

In the survey of 3,000 Brits, 25 per cent of people said they will be taking more UK short breaks this year.

Shakila Ahmed, a Travelodge spokeswoman, said: “Our annual holiday index confirms that we have become a Staycation Nation. More Britons than ever are exploring what makes Great Britain so great which is great news for our economy.”
