COUNCIL officials have backed a campaign to provide a copy of a new children's book to every school in Dorset.
Conservationist Richard Bradford hopes to give book The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris to every infant, primary and junior school in the county.
He has launched a Crowdfunder appeal in support of his campaign.
The book takes twenty of the words that have been falling out of use for children - such as adder, kingfisher and bramble - and re-introduces them with paintings and poems.
Councillor Daryl Turner, Dorset County Council cabinet member, said: “The countryside is important to all of us and making sure that our young people learn about nature is essential for future generations.”
The campaign seeks to raise £3,600, which will provide copies of the book for 180 schools.
