AN "acquisitive" burglar has been jailed after pleading guilty to three offences. Peter Christopher Turner, aged 34 and of no fixed abode, was sentenced to a total of three years and seven months in prison at Bournemouth Crown Court on Wednesday, April 18, after admitting two offences of non-dwelling burglary and an attempted non-dwelling burglary.

At around 8pm on Sunday, February 12, 2017, a Ford Focus was used to smash a window of CDT Tiles in Sharp Road in Poole and a safe was stolen from the premises.

The vehicle was found abandoned in Legion Close in Hamworthy later that evening with the safe inside. Two other men - Peter John Bright and Veron Roy Davies - were arrested shortly afterwards.

CCTV from the incident was recovered and Turner was also identified as being involved in the burglary. He was arrested on Wednesday, February 22. Glass from a pair of his motorcycle gloves was analysed and forensically linked to the scene.

At around 10.40am on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, Dorset Police received a report that a residential garage had been broken into in Cowgrove Road in Wimborne and a large number of gardening tools were stolen.

Turner was identified through CCTV footage at the property.

The following day, at around 2.40pm, a resident in Tarrant Gunville near Blandford saw two men in the garage of her property. She contacted police and the two men left the scene in a red Saab.

Officers spotted a red Saab nearby in Tarrant Launceston and Turner was arrested after getting out of the vehicle and attempting to flee from officers.

Bright, aged 40 and of no fixed abode, and Davies, 51 and also of no fixed abode, were sentenced to 28 months in prison for the Sharp Road burglary at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, September 8, 2017, after admitting the offence.

Detective Constable Michelle Lawrence, of Bournemouth CID, said: “Peter Turner is an acquisitive criminal who shows little regard for his victims and has no respect for other people’s property.

“Dorset Police is committed to bringing burglars such as Turner to justice and I hope the sentence imposed shows that offences such as these will be dealt with firmly by the courts.
