A DECISION on whether to release the remaining £5.328m of funding for Carter Community School will be made at full council tonight.

Council members are being asked to release the funding, adding to the £1.2m already allocated, to ensure the school's capacity is increased by two forms.

In February 2016 Borough of Poole's (BOP) cabinet and full council approved the strategy proposed by the authority's Secondary Schools Steering Group to expand Carter Community School. The new capacity should be in place for September 2019.

BOP portfolio holder for children and young people services, Cllr Mike White, said in his report to full council: "I seek council approval of the recommendations."

An accompanying update report explained: "Carter Community School converted to academy status in 2013 and is sponsored by the United Learning Trust.

"United Learning and the Borough of Poole are working in partnership to deliver the capital project to enlarge the school's premises.

"Council approved a budget allowance of £7m for the delivery of this project in February 2016."

Members of BOP's full council are set to convene at the Civic Centre at 7pm this evening. (April 24)
