BAR owners who want to open a venue in Broadstone have set their sights on a unit currently occupied by Costa Coffee.

Kate and Gordon Compston, who own the Tap House and The Gin House in Wimborne, had recently gained planning permission to open a wine bar at the former Julia’s House shop in Lower Blandford Road.

However, their plans were scuppered after the landlord entered into a contract with Patisserie Mark Bennett.

Work on the bakery, which will be the fourth branch opened by Mark Bennett, is taking place, with the opening set for the middle of May.

Mr and Mrs Compston have now submitted a premises licence application for the unit currently occupied by Costa Coffee.

The application is for the supply of alcohol from Monday to Sunday between 12pm and 11pm.

When asked for a statement, Mrs Compston said: “I can confirm we have applied for a licence on the Costa Coffee premises in Broadstone.”

She could not provide any further details at this stage.

When they submitted their plans for the former Julia’s House store, Mr and Mrs Compston said they wanted to open a “premium drinking establishment” in Broadstone.

They said the new bar would be “something completely unique to Broadstone and the surrounding areas.”

The Daily Echo has requested a statement from Costa Coffee as it is understood the store will be re-locating to another premises in Broadstone.

While they progress with their plans for a new bar in Broadstone, Mr and Mrs Compston will be re-locating The Gin House to a bigger premises in Church Street, Wimborne in May.
