ONE of the county's must unique fundraising events is returning to Bournemouth Airport.

The Dorset Plane Pull, which challenges teams of 20 to pull a 35,000kg aircraft a distance of 50 metres in aid of good causes, is this year celebrating its tenth birthday, having raised more than £130,000 for a variety of local and national charities over the years.

Co-founder and organiser Richard Griffin said: “The 2018 event has already built great momentum - 21 teams are confirmed so far with numerous others making contact. We expect this year to be our busiest ever and hopefully we can push our fundraising total past £150,000.”

The event, which will take place on Monday, August 27, will be hosted by European Skybus at Bournemouth Airport from 10am.

Twelve Charities have been confirmed as event beneficiaries including Amelia’s Rainbow; Dorset Cancer Care Foundation; The Isabel Baker Foundation; John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation and Julia’s House.

All beneficiary charities are now seeking teams to take part and pull on their behalf. The day provides fun for both participants and supporters, with entertainment, food, drinks and stalls on site to keep all amused and entry to the site is free. Activities for younger visitors includes shows, balloon modelling and inflatable fun.

To celebrate 10 years the organisers are keen to set a new Guinness World Record and are actively seeking corporate financial support to try and achieve this.
