YOUTHS have reportedly been throwing stones at cows grazing at Iford Meadows.
Hengistbury Head rangers, which help look after the small herd of Shetland cattle, were alerted to the incident on Wednesday afternoon.
The next morning they checked the herd and the cows appeared unharmed.
Posting on Facebook, the rangers said "this doesn't make the incident any less serious or worrying".
"We have spoken to a few dog walkers on Iford Meadows this morning who all have said how nice it is to have the cattle here and how calm they seem alongside people and dogs. Please help us to stop those responsible for thinking that this is in any way acceptable."
The rangers are urging anyone who sees stones being thrown at the cattle to call police immediately, or speak to Hengistbury Head visitor centre on 01202 451618.
