POOLE Bridge will be closed overnight for nearly two weeks while permanent walkways are installed.

The crossing will be closed to road vehicles between 7pm and 7am, starting this evening.

It will fully re-open on Friday, March 9.

Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to cross the bridge using one walkway.

Workers will be ripping up temporary timber decking and replacing it with a permanent walkway over the course of the 12 consecutive overnight closures.

John Rice, engineering manager, said: "The temporary overnight planned closures will allow the contractor to complete some finishing touches to the bridge. The work has been programmed to minimise disruption to road users, so we hope it will not cause too much inconvenience."

Poole Bridge will continue to lift on the current lifting schedule during the day.
