WORRIED parents have called for vigilance after three suspicious incidents involving white van drivers and young schoolchildren took place within two days.

Dorset Police, who have investigated all three reports, stress no offences have been identified so far - and that there is nothing to suggest the incidents are linked.

However, officers have spoken to two men identified following investigations, to offer words of advice, and have carried out CCTV checks alongside house-to-house visits.

Officers from local neighbourhood policing teams have also carried out patrols of the areas concerned.

On Thursday, last week, officers were called to Winton Primary School, Oswald Road, Bournemouth, around 5pm, following a third-hand report of two men approaching children outside the school campus, and trying to tempt them into a white van.

Officers have spoken to the school but are yet to speak to the children involved, police confirmed yesterday.

Worried mum Beth Perry, who has two children at Winton Primary, told the Echo: “It is unsettling to say the least, the other parents I speak with at the school have all spoken to their children about it as well. There is concern.

“We were told in an email that was circulated by the school on Monday, four days after what had happened, that police would be on site - but in the afternoon there was no-one there.

“At least they were not visible, but you need that visibility in this situation to put everyone at ease. I just want it to be made known to the wider community that there has been these incidents. It is quite scary.”

Earlier the same day, at around 3.30pm, police were also called after an 11-year-old boy reported two men waving at him from a white van.

The Somerford Primary School youngster was walking along Druitt Road, Christchurch, when the men reportedly said “hello” and asked if he was “alright.” The student ignored the pair and they drove off.

Less that 24-hours earlier, around 9.20am on Wednesday, January 24, the first of the three incidents was reported at a bus stop in the Alderholt area.

It was reported the driver got out of a white van and briefly spoke to young Cranborne Middle School pupils.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “Following an investigation officers identified two men who we established to be working in the area.

“No offences have been identified and words of advice were given to the men.”

The spokesman added: “A review of each incident has taken place and there is nothing to suggest they are linked.

“No offences have been identified at this time.”
