A POPULAR charity concert returns to Bournemouth this July to mark 100 years since the end of World War One.

The open-air Bournemouth Rocks Charity Concert comes to St Peters School playing field in Southbourne on Saturday, July 21.

A host of music and dance will be on offer for all the family, including medleys from James Bond and traditional Prom classics from 5pm until 10pm, with a fireworks spectacular and big band closing the evening.

The concert has been set up by Southbourne councillor Eddie Coope and his wife Janet.

After first launching in 2014 the concert did not take place last year during Cllr Coope's mayoral year, but plans are already taking shape for this year's event and he said it looks like being the best instalment yet.

"We had quite a lot of interest last year, but after just coming out of the mayoral duties it was all very hectic and having done the mayor's ball as well," Cllr Coope said.

"Now we have decided to put an event on for this summer and hopefully we will have some nice hot weather and everyone will have a great time.

"It is set to be a slightly different feel from previous years, but there will be something for all the family.

"Being 100 years since the end of World War One, we felt it was important to mark that occasion was a significant event.

"It is a celebration with something for all ages and the idea is to raise a lot of money for some very worthy charities."

Funds raised from the event will go to three local causes, with Stable Family Home Trust, a Ringwood-based charity which supports people with learning disabilities, Pilgrim Bandits, a New Milton-based group which uses unique training and experiences to help and inspire injured personnel to live life to the full, and the mental health department at Bournemouth Hospital Charity all set to benefit.

Tim Seward, of Tim Seward Management, is part of the organising team and looking to build sponsors for the event.

“I am delighted to be working with Cllr Eddie and Mrs Janet Coope for the Bournemouth Rocks Charity Concert taking place this summer," Mr Seward said.

"I know these concerts in the past have raised a significant amount of money for local charities and hope we will do so again this year.

"We are talking to a wide range of talent to perform and a full line up will be released by the end of February at a special launch event”
