Never mind Johnny, it’s Greg that gets the cash with his ‘Ring of Fire’ entry in the latest Echo Camera Club Dorset competition.

The incredible photograph was chosen by judges as the winner of the song title theme for November, landing Greg Stretch a £50 voucher to spend with club sponsors Castle Cameras.

The stunning shot was taken in a Blandford underpass in the early hours of the morning using a long exposure.

“I used a piece of steel wool inside an egg whisk attached to a dog lead to create the spinning effect”, said Greg.

“I then waited for 20 minutes to make sure no stray sparks remained.”

Greg only bought his digital SLR camera last year but has been hooked on the hobby ever since.

“As much as I love shooting landscapes, I’m finding myself drawn to more creative photography lately and love the effect steel wool can create.

“The thing I like about the competitions is the standard of the entries, it really inspires to find a great image. I felt honoured to be selected as a finalist, to be choosen as the winner amongst so many great entries is unbelievable.”

Daily Echo Head of Digital Imaging Corin Messer, said: “Greg’s image fits his chosen song title and it is a superb example of how a great idea can be executed perfectly. It’s a picture I’d be proud to have in my portfolio.”
