POOLE’s traditional Lantern Parade is set to hit the streets on Thursday.

The family favourite event, organised by Poole Town Centre Partnership, will transform the town centre into a beacon of light as local children walk down the High Street with lanterns and illuminated works of art.

Pupils from Old Town, Oakdale and Lilliput schools have worked with local artist Caroline Rackham over the last few months to design lanterns illuminated by LED lights.

An illuminated design for the front of the procession has been made by The Men’s Shed in Poole, while creations have also been made by members of the public who attended workshops held at Poole Museum.

John Grinnell, centre manager at the Dolphin Shopping Centre, who sponsored this year’s event, said: “The event sadly wouldn’t have been able to go ahead without our sponsorship, so we’re pleased to be able to work alongside the Poole Town Centre Partnership in order to bring it back for local families.

“This visually stunning event has real significance within the local community and is packed with traditional Christmas spirit.”

The Lantern Parade is free to attend with the procession leaving Falkland Square at 6pm. The Quayside Emporium is also set to provide mince pies.

Hannah Porter, Poole town centre operations and marketing manager, said: “More of the community than ever are taking part this year.

“It’s great to see so many getting involved.”
