CHRISTMAS cheer came to Boscombe’s Sovereign Shopping Centre on Saturday with a full day of family festivities taking place.

Father Christmas led a parade from Boscombe Pier to the Sovereign Shopping Centre where the mayor and centre manager Peter Ruscoe greeted the main man himself and officially opened the grotto.

There were live musical performances, an elf creative workshop, free face painting and stilt walking reindeer plus a performance from the Southern Union Chorus.

Santa’s grotto, operated by Boscombe and Southbourne and Westbourne Rotary, can be found opposite the Lidl store and will be open to children from 10am until December 23.

Peter Ruscoe, Sovereign’s Centre Manager, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the Rotary back to the centre to operate the Grotto again this year. So many children enjoy the experience of meeting Santa, receiving a present and having a picture as a memory, it’s become a key part of Christmas at the centre.”

This year, the money raised by the Grotto’s £5 entry will be supporting local charities including Bournemouth Hospital Charity, Amelia Grace Rainbow Fund and Rotary supported charities.
