ENGINEERS are still working to restore gas supplies to properties in Brockenhurst.

A gas main flooded on Tuesday, leading to a loss of supplies to more than 60 properties, including Brockenhurst College and top hotels Careys Manor and the Balmer Lawn.

Today a spokesman for Southern Gas Networks said around 10 properties are still without gas because engineers have been unable to access the properties.

He said householders will receive £30 compensation for each 24-hour period without gas, after the first 24 hours.

And he added: "We appreciate the support of Brockenhurst residents as we've worked to restore supplies. We're sorry for the inconvenience the loss of your gas supply has caused and would like to thank you once again for your patience and understanding."

He said around 11,000 litres of water have been removed.

Temporary traffic lights are still in place on the A337 to allow engineers to reinstate the road.

Brockenhurst College was closed for two days but is open today.
