A CAFE has devised the purr-fect way to provide company for the elderly this festive season.

Pause Cat Cafe, of Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, is bringing elderly members of the community together for a ‘catastic’ Christmas party with the goal of addressing the isolation they feel over Christmas.

According to Age UK, a charity that supports the elderly, there are two and half million older people not looking forward to Christmas, mainly due to memories of those who have passed away.

The café hopes the party, on Friday, December 15 between 12pm and 2pm, can reach the most isolated older people in the community, who would otherwise spend much of the festive period alone.

The event organiser Michelle Myrvold said: “It is heartwarming to see how much joy the cats bring to our older guests, who used to own pets, but due to living arrangements, and other reasons, they are no longer able to.”

Pause Cat Cafe recognise that mobility can be a challenge for the elderly and therefore would like to offer transport to the event; however being not-for-profit they do not have the funds to cover the costs and are hoping that people can provide support through donations.
