A PUB in Bournemouth town centre is currently closed for two weeks to undergo a major £300,000 refurbishment.

The Mary Shelley JD Wetherspoon watering hole on Hinton Road has not been open since Monday (20.11).

Workers were seen preparing the site last week before the closure, with a section of the pub shut off to the public.

The substantial development includes new toilet facilities and carpets, repainted and improved bar facilities, new lighting and kitchen enhancements.

The pub, which is named after Frankenstein author Mary Shelley who is buried at neighbouring St Peter's Church, is due to reopen to the public on Monday December 4.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “The Mary Shelley is an extremely popular pub.

“We are always keen to offer our customers the best pub possible and believe the improvements will enhance the pub.”
