DRIVERS travelling through the New Forest are continuing to flout the 40 mph speed limit.

As the latest campaign aimed to slow drivers down during the darker nights gets under way, the Daily Echo has caught some drivers going faster than the legal speed limit.

Last week, the New Forest National Park Authority, commoners and other partners launched the #add3minutes campaign to get people to leave more time for their journey and avoid animal accidents and deaths.

The campaign, which ties in with the clocks going back, asked drivers to add an extra three minutes to their journey to help prevent serious crashes with animals, which increase when the clocks go back and nights get darker earlier.

In our footage, a camera was set-up to record a car driving exactly 40 mph in cruise control through a section of the New Forest, between Crow Hill and Burley.

Continuing to film, other cars were seen travelling through the section faster than the car doing 40 mph.

We calculated the speed of the vehicles travelling - with one seen doing around 55 mph.

In half an hour of filming, a number of other vehicles were also seen doing more than 40 mph.

Hampshire Police say roadside checks will be carried out as part of the latest campaign.
