AN inquest is under way after a woman reportedly suffocated to death following an incident at St Ann's.
Thippawan Donnelly, 36, had voluntarily placed herself in the care of the Poole mental health hospital in June last year, and she remained there until the incident on July 14, after which she was taken to Poole Hospital.
There she was placed in intensive care but died three days later.
Ms Donnelly was not detained under the Mental Health Act.
At a pre-inquest review at Bournemouth Coroners Court yesterday Dorset Coroner Rachel Griffin read from a pathologists' report that the cause of death was hypoxic brain injury brought about by "plastic bag asphyxia".
The court heard Ms Donnelly had been taken to hospital three times in the preceding weeks after harming herself.
Ms Griffin called for further statements to be prepared by Dorset HealthCare and Poole Hospital and adjourned the inquest for a further review hearing in January.
The full hearing, expected to take up to two days, will be heard in March.
