A road in Poole was closed this morning due to a gas leak.

Oakfield Road was closed at the junction with Hiley Road.

A spokesperson for SGN said due to the poor condition of the gas main, engineers have urgently needed to upgrade a section at the Hiley Road junction.

"We’re currently working to upgrade our gas network in Oakfield Road. This project involves us replacing old metal mains with modern plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to Oakfield residents for many years to come," they explained.

"To allow us safe access to our pipe and keep motorists safe around our work area, we’ve temporarily closed Oakfield Road at its junction with Hiley Road.

"We’ll complete our work in the junction today and we’ll be able to reopen Oakfield Road this evening.

"Thank you to local residents for their patience while we carry out this urgent work."

Borough of Poole tweeted at 3.30pm to say the road had been re-opened.
