IT always feels as though summer has really arrived when I am in the car and heading to Camp Bestival.

It is such a fun weekend with a mixture of everything to keep a whole range of age groups entertained.

It's billed as a family festival so there is plenty to keep the kids entertained throughout the day with a Kid's Garden featuring activities such as Pimp My Trolley, an Insect Circus, Professor Queen Bee, Clowns, a craft tent, science tent and workshop, Mr Maker and of course the ever present Mr Tumble who seems to be just a big a draw for the adults as he is for the kids.

The music is as eclectic as ever and its a bit of a throwback feel this time around starting with the Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band opening the main stage on Friday via the ever-wonderful Madness who put on a fantastic headlining set on Saturday night and Brian Wilson headlining the Castle Stage on the Sunday night.

The main arena will close with Leftfield and the traditional firework spectacular but have no fear if you are not partied out yet as the Dub Pistols and Disney Rascal will keep you up till the early hours in the Big Top.

This is the tenth anniversary of the festival and it’s a tribute to Rob and Josie De-Bank and the whole army of organisers and volunteers that it feels as fresh now as it ever has.

The sold out signs are up and despite a rainy Friday and Saturday everyone is out and about and enjoying the event to the max.

One small hitch was that I couldn’t get in the WI tent for my annual cup of tea and sandwich because it was absolutely crammed to the rafters with people seeking shelter but every cloud has a silver lining as they must have taken ten times the usual amount for the charity.

The other great thing about the rain is that bands and sideshows that would normally attract a small cosy crowd suddenly find them selves playing to rammed venues and the biggest crowds of their lives, plus people discover acts they would not normally see whilst seeking shelter.

My favourite parts of the weekend so far have been a stunning festival stealing set from Elvana (not a spelling mistake, look them up), the ever-present Cuban Brothers and The School of Rock.

Still to come are Anne-Marie, a Brian Wilson set that I have been waiting twenty years to see and now the sun is out I will be returning to the WI tent for that tea and sandwich.

It may have rained but something as minor as that would never be enough to dampen the spirits of a crowd that are out for fun and who will leave with memories that will last a lifetime.
