PASSSENGERS on Morebus services will no longer need to carry cash.

The company has introduced cashless payments, including facilities for paying by contactless debit or credit card, phone or smart watch.

It says the move will increase accessibility and speed up journey times. Customers who prefer to pay by cash will still be able to.

Morebus managing director Andrew Wickham said: “From now on we will be accepting all contactless payment types, including Apple and Android – as well as wearable devices like Apple Watch.

“We are the first operator in the area to offer this facility - and it is all about providing our customers with quicker and more convenient ways to pay.

“I’d like to reassure customers who prefer to use other payment methods - like cash and the Key – that they will still be able to do so.

“Our aim is to give people more choice, helping to make sustainable transport an even more attractive option here. And I’m looking forward to hearing the views of those trying out the new system.”

The company had already introduced free Wi-Fi and USB charging devices for mobile users.
