VISITORS will have the chance to look around the refurbished Poole Bridge today.

Interserve Construction Limited is opening its site compound, located next to Poole Bridge on the town centre side, to the public between 10am and 2pm.

Work has been delayed on the bridge, which was supposed to open in June.

Visitors will be able to see the work from a vantage point on the Poole Approach span and hear from the contractor's team about the next phase of construction when work starts to take place above the waterline on the Hamworthy side.

John Rice, Engineering Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "We have now overcome the various problems encountered during the piling works to the Hamworthy abutment and the work is now moving on at a pace.

"The construction of the new abutment has now started and we will soon install the new steel beams on the Hamworthy side which will support the new road deck and carry traffic over the Backwater Channel."
