A MAN had to be taken to hospital after "being hit with a piece of wood" in Bournemouth last night.
Police were called to reports of an assault in Castle Lane West, near Cooper Dean Roundabout, just before 5pm on Tuesday.
The victim, a Poole man in his 30s, had suffered a laceration to his ear.
A Dorset Police spokesman said he reported that he had been struck with a piece of wood.
"The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries, before being discharged later that evening," he added.
A 36-year-old Swansea man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is helping officers with their enquiries.
