PLANS to turn a former Bournemouth nightclub into a bar and yoga studio have been submitted to council planners.

Despite Madisons in Bournemouth Square closing years ago, the space above the now Pret a Manger has remained empty.

But now a change of use application has been submitted to the council to convert the nightclub into a mixed business space made up of a drinking establishment, yoga studio and treatment rooms.

The business would be called the Madding Crowd and promises to provide "artistic improvement to the town centre".

According to the planning statement the second floor of the site at 14A Commercial Road would be turned into a yoga studio and three treatment rooms.

There would also be space on the floor for a meeting room which would be available for businesses and community groups to hire.

The second floor of the business would open at 6am for those people who would like to use the yoga studio before work. It would then close at 8pm so not to affected by the bar below.

When talking about the bar the planning statement describes it as a "social concept that looks to bring high quality live music to its customers".

It added: "Each day of the week will be a different genre of music, with local up and up and coming musicians accompanied by established acts.

"There will be table service on offer on some evenings, for example a jazz music night, where the service is more appropriate and to be expected.

"The business will focus mainly on the provision of beverages, but will offer a menu to customers from established eateries in the local area who will deliver food to the venue."

It will be mainly seated and the capacity of the venue has been reduced from 400 when it was a nightclub to 200.

The bar will usually open at 4pm, with live music between 5pm and 10pm. The venue would close at 12.30am with last orders at midnight.

A premises licence has also been submitted to the council for the venue.
