THE UK’s first beach netball event is bouncing back into Bournemouth this weekend (JUL 1&2).

Following its success last year, the competition at Boscombe beach will feature twice the amount of netball teams this time round, as well as children’s attractions, chill-out areas, a beach barbecue by Urban Reef, free massages from Active Therapy South, and an after-party at The Lost Paradise.

Co-organiser Anna Sharp said: “Last year’s inaugural event exceeded all our expectations and since then we have been inundated with teams from across the country who want to take part. We have been amazed by the interest Beach Netball UK has received and the second event sold out in January, just a few months after opening.”

She continued: “The tournament is a great day out for all the family and, most importantly, raises much needed funds for the charity Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF).”

Beach netball originated in Australia and Hong Kong, but last year’s Dorset festival was the first to take place in the UK.

Event co-organiser Emma Magson explained: “The normal netball rules apply, albeit very loosely due to the fact we are playing on sand, however this only adds to the fun and enjoyment of the event. “Last year’s competitors loved playing on sand with the sea as their backdrop, and visitors told us it was really exciting to watch.”

DCCF fundraiser Anne Rowland added: “We are thrilled to be part of this fast-moving and exciting festival and are very grateful to Emma and Anna for once again donating proceeds to our charity."
